Discussions regarding 8th CPC have already assumed fervour with government employees all over India eagerly watching the possible impact on their salaries. The most asked question is how much a Level-2 employee with GP 1900 would earn post-implementation of 8th CPC. Here is an expected breakdown based on projected figures and common expectations:
1. Basic Pay At Present Under 7th CPC
Under the 7th CPC, the basic pay shall range at a minimum of ₹19,900 for employees in Level-2 with GP 1900. This will change annually due to increments that go with higher years of service and thus may vary with each passing year.
2. Fitment Factor Under The 8th CPC
The Fitment Factor has not been declared yet by the Government of India. But for reasons brought about by the media and the experts’ opinion, it is expected to be much greater between 3.00 to 3.10, while today being considered just 2.57.
Working on an assumption, the fitment factor should come to 3.00 for consideration in the 8th CPC:
- New Basic Pay = Old Basic Pay × 3.00
- ₹19,900
- New Basic = ₹19,900 × 3 = ₹59,700
3. House Rent Allowance
HRA differs with respect to the class of cities:
- X Cities (metros): 27%
- Y Cities: 18%
- Z Cities: 9%
Let us say a Y-class city:
- HRA = 18% of ₹59,700 = ₹10,746
4. Transport Allowance (TA)
Transport Allowance at Level-2 (assuming no dearness allowance):
- In Metro cities: ₹1,800
- In Other cities: ₹900
With DA expected at 50%, the TA is as follows:
- TA = ₹1,800 + DA @ 50% = ₹2,700** (for metro)
5. Gross & Net Salary Estimate
Adding it all up,
- Basic Pay: ₹59,700
- HRA: ₹10,746
- TA: ₹2,700
- The Gross Total: ₹73,146/month
After deductions for provident fund, tax, etc., the Net Salary usually falls around ₹65,000–₹68,000/month, based on the city and exemptions available.
Conclusion
Assuming that with 3.00 fitment factor, the 8th Pay Commission would really provide a big salary increase with net salaries going up by over ₹20,000 per month in a few cases, Level-2 employees at GP 1900 stand to benefit enormously. The exact numbers, however, will depend on the government notification and rates officially adopted.
